About me

I’m Franco Betteo, an AI engineer and senior data scientist. I help teams turn a specific business problem into an AI or machine learning system they can evaluate, use, and maintain.

Background

I have worked at Nielsen, InsiteAI, and Despegar, and with teams ranging from startups to the University of Oxford. Most of my work has been in retail and CPG: demand forecasting, assortment optimization, pricing analysis, segmentation, and product discovery.

For the University of Oxford, I developed educational materials for a machine learning program. At Diggity, I built the first MVP using probabilistic graphical models.

What I build

Besides client work, I build and run my own products:

Running products with real users keeps me close to the practical side of software: reliability, cost, and whether people actually use what was built.

How I work

I work directly with your team and explain the tradeoffs behind each decision. I prefer starting with a clear question and a simple baseline, then adding complexity only when the evidence supports it. The goal is a system your team understands and can improve without me.

Writing

I have been writing about statistics and machine learning since 2018, first in Spanish and now mostly in English.
